What are you up to this weekend? I'll be surfing the waves in the South Bay and hiking Switzer Falls with my boyfriend and his daughter. Maybe we'll even bake some bread. Here are some things you might enjoy around the web...

  • I'm excited that fig season is upon us and look forward to making this easy dessert.

  • If you loved The California Field Atlas as much as I did, you might want to check out the author's next book. It's available for pre-order now at a discounted rate.

  • What a fun and easy way to build-your-own outfit.

I'm honored to be reviewing portfolios via Zoom with the Art of Freelance next week (week of August 10). Other reviewers include top Agents, Art Producers, and Photo Editors from 72&Sunny, RPA, Wieden & Kennedy, CPB, Nat Geo, New York Mag and more!

The reviews are geared towards emerging and under-represented artists (specifically BIPOC, LatinX, LGBTQ+, women and non-binary photographers). Up to 75 artists will be invited to attend. Each invited artist will be able to sign up for three reviews.

To apply, all you need to do is fill out the application linked here or on the link on their Instagram bio. If there are more applications than available slots, the Art of Freelance team will vet, and priority will be given to mid-career artists without agents.

Applications close at Noon PST today - August 4.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Jamie Reilly, the VP, Global Creative at Vans for KO-OP. We chatted about the history of Vans, its brand ethos of creative self-expression in youth culture, the LGBTQ+ skate scene, how the company is helping skate/surf shops during the pandemic, Weird Waves, and more.

Learn more about how Vans gives back and keeps the stoke alive. Check out the full interview here!
